This land is a rich tapestry
of seedlings and established roots
towering giants hold the sky
miniscule creatures cradle their brood

my skin is dry and caked
I feel the weight of my own limbs
Crooked has grown my rachis
I can no longer face the sun

my leaves were green when in season
I didn't know my seasons grew this short
I thought I could bloom flowers
Apparently this ambition I could not afford

My roots would coil in anticipation
My dreams revolved the sun
My branches curled in enthusiasm
colored petals spiraled from wind's fun

I didn't know I was so ephemeral
I stand flushed with sorrow
I didn't believe I was perennial
I grow ever hollow hollow hollow

destroy me
burn me
